Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has expressed profound gratitude after being awarded the “Gernika Award for Peace and Reconciliation” in recognition of his efforts to promote peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and encourage dialogue.
In an address to participants of the award ceremony, President Aliyev thanked the Town Councils of Gernika-Lumo and Pforzheim, as well as the Gernika Peace Museum, Casa de Cultura, and the Gernika Gogoratuz Peace Research Center for the honor.
“It is a great privilege to receive this prominent award, which aims to perpetuate the historical memory of the Gernika tragedy and to honor individuals who contribute to peace and reconciliation processes,” the president said.
He noted that the presentation of the award on April 26, observed as Gernika Victims’ Remembrance Day, holds particular symbolic significance, underscoring the importance of remembering past tragedies while advancing efforts toward lasting peace.
President Aliyev reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue and reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in fostering stability and cooperation in the region.
