Islamabad, May 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan has strongly rejected recent comments by the United Kingdom’s special representative on Afghanistan regarding the situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, terming them “inaccurate” and lacking a comprehensive understanding of ground realities.
In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that the British envoy’s social media remarks do not reflect the facts and present a one-sided view of the evolving border situation.
The spokesperson dismissed allegations regarding civilian casualties in Afghanistan as “baseless,” asserting that Pakistan has itself suffered significant losses due to unprovoked attacks and دہشت گرد کارروائیاں attributed to Afghan Taliban. He stated that 52 Pakistani civilians were martyred and 84 others injured in recent incidents.
Responding to questions from the media, Andrabi emphasized that there is currently no formal ceasefire in place between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He clarified that while a temporary three-day pause in hostilities was observed during Eid al-Fitr, it has since expired.
He further noted that even during a ceasefire period in March, cross-border attacks continued, raising concerns over the effectiveness and implementation of such arrangements.
The Foreign Office urged the international community to take note of the prevailing security challenges and acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in combating terrorism and maintaining regional stability.
The spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace but will respond firmly to any threats to its sovereignty and security.
