Baku, May 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on received Tuesday Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, during his visit to Baku.
During the meeting, President Aliyev noted Belarus’s participation in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum with a high-level delegation.
The Azerbaijani president praised the steady development of Azerbaijan-Belarus relations, describing the ties as being founded on close friendship and active cooperation across multiple sectors. He also underscored the significance of interparliamentary relations in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Touching upon economic ties, President Aliyev highlighted the successful implementation of joint projects between the two countries and emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in various fields.
Expressing gratitude for the meeting, Sergeyenko conveyed greetings from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to President Aliyev.
President Aliyev thanked him for the greetings and asked that his own regards be conveyed to President Lukashenko.
Sergeyenko emphasized that the personal relations between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Belarus play an important role in enhancing cooperation between the institutions and authorities of both countries.
The Belarusian parliamentary speaker also noted that he attended the opening ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum and praised the event for facilitating important discussions on key urban development and planning issues.
He commended Azerbaijan for the successful organization of WUF13, highlighting the country’s extensive experience in hosting major international events.
During the talks, both sides discussed prospects for further strengthening bilateral relations and exchanged views on expanding cooperation between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Belarus.
