Astana, May 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa has emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Union, expressing optimism about strengthening long-term partnership ties.

He made the remarks during the plenary session of the 5th Eurasian Economic Forum held in Astana, where he underlined that engagement with the EAEU holds special strategic importance for Cuba’s economic development.

Valdés Mesa stated that the expansion of economic and trade relations with the Eurasian Economic Union represents both a priority and an urgent necessity for Cuba, particularly in the context of its ongoing development agenda.

“The development of our economic and trade relations and cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union is of particular importance to Cuba and represents an urgent necessity,” he said, adding that Cuba relies on “historical friendship and solidarity” with the EAEU member states to advance its economic goals.
