Swedish Duo Åhman and Hellvig Reach Ostrava Quarterfinals as Hölting Nilsson and Andersson Exit World Championships

Ostrava, May 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: Sweden’s beach volleyball pair Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson have been eliminated from the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Ostrava after suffering a straight-sets defeat in the round of 16.

The Swedish duo lost to Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan in two sets, 19–21 and 18–21, bringing their campaign to an end. The defeat followed another straight-sets loss in their final group-stage match against Dutch pair Steven van de Velde and Alexander de Groot.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s other team, David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig, secured a place in the quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory over France’s Rotar and Gauthier-Rat.

Åhman and Hellvig overcame the French duo 2–1 in a closely contested encounter, winning 21–16, losing 18–21, and clinching the decisive third set 16–14.

The Swedish pair will now face Dutch opponents van de Velde and de Groot in the quarterfinals, with the match scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. local time.
