Dushanbe, June 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, held talks with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze at the Palace of the Nation on June 19, during the Georgian leader’s official visit to Tajikistan at the head of a high-level delegation.
The two sides conducted detailed discussions on the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of intensifying political dialogue and maintaining regular constructive contacts at various levels. They also highlighted the expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy as key elements in advancing bilateral relations.
Trade and economic cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. The parties explored opportunities for implementing joint investment projects, developing production chains in priority economic sectors, and expanding cooperation in e-commerce.
They also discussed the joint use of interregional transit corridors, as well as cooperation in agriculture, light industry, food processing, and pharmaceuticals. Particular attention was given to advancing technological innovation, including artificial intelligence, and promoting the development of a green economy as promising areas of future collaboration.
In the humanitarian field, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in science, education, tourism, healthcare, culture, youth policy, and sports.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the signing of a comprehensive package of bilateral agreements during the Georgian Prime Minister’s visit, noting that these documents significantly strengthen the legal framework governing relations between the two countries.
Special importance was attached to the Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. President Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that the commission would provide strong institutional support for the implementation of practical initiatives aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional issues, reaffirming their commitment to constructive cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations, with emphasis on global water security and climate change.
Following the talks, President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a joint press conference for representatives of the media.
It was announced that eleven bilateral agreements were signed during the official visit, covering a wide range of areas including civil aviation, agriculture, tourism, science and education, culture, sports, climate change, and other sectors of mutual interest.
Officials described the Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation as one of the most significant outcomes of the visit, marking an important step toward further strengthening Tajikistan–Georgia relations.
