Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva Lead Opening of Modern Sports and Environmental Projects in Baku

Baku, June 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: A series of environmentally focused and recreational projects were officially introduced at Azerbaijan’s Seaside National Park during a ceremony attended by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and Arzu Aliyeva, Head of the Baku Media Center.

The event marked the inauguration of the newly renovated Boulevard Sports Club, which has been developed to encourage healthier lifestyles and expand recreational opportunities for visitors. The upgraded complex includes a modern fitness center, padel courts, and additional sports facilities designed to serve people of all ages.

Another major highlight was the presentation of the WasteShark, an innovative remote-controlled floating device designed to remove waste, organic debris, and pollutants from coastal waters. Equipped with advanced sensors and cameras, the technology is expected to strengthen environmental protection efforts in Baku Bay by improving the efficiency of water-cleaning operations, particularly in hard-to-access areas. Authorities plan to begin localized operations before expanding the system across a wider section of the bay.

The ceremony also featured the launch of a new fleet of electric phaetons, offering visitors an environmentally friendly sightseeing experience along Baku Boulevard. Inspired by the city’s historic carriage traditions, the silent electric vehicles are intended to combine cultural heritage with sustainable urban transport, providing comfortable tours while reducing environmental impact.

The environmental initiatives were implemented with the support of the IDEA Public Union, reflecting Azerbaijan’s continued efforts to promote sustainability, improve public spaces, and enhance recreational facilities in the capital. During the event, Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva also met residents and visitors, exchanging greetings and taking commemorative photographs.
