Jakarta, June 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is promoting a deep learning approach aimed at equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital era.
Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat said on Sunday that digital transformation has fundamentally reshaped nearly every aspect of modern life, including social interactions, economic activities, and global governance.
He noted that while technological progress has created new opportunities, it has also introduced complex challenges such as cybersecurity threats, personal data protection, transnational crime, and the growing use of artificial intelligence, all of which require greater legal awareness, ethical understanding, and international cooperation.
“Technological advancements are moving very rapidly. Thus, the younger generation must possess the ability to continuously learn, adapt, think critically, and understand the various impacts of digital technology,” Atip said.
He emphasized that the education system should produce graduates who not only possess strong academic knowledge but also demonstrate integrity, creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to make responsible decisions.
According to the deputy minister, these principles form the foundation of the deep learning approach currently being promoted by the ministry.
Under the initiative, students are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of concepts, connect classroom learning with real-life situations, and strengthen higher-order thinking skills to address increasingly complex global challenges.
Atip also stressed that every activity in the digital space carries legal, ethical, and accountability implications that should be understood from an early age.
He underscored the importance of ensuring that digital literacy is accompanied by character development and critical thinking, enabling young people to use technology responsibly while adapting to the demands of an increasingly digital world.
