President Aliyev Highlights U.S. Role in Advancing Zangezur Corridor

Baku, July 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has praised the United States’ role in supporting the proposed Zangezur Corridor and facilitating progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, President Aliyev said international partners clearly recognized the strategic importance of the Zangezur Corridor, which is expected to connect mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave.

“They clearly understood the necessity for the Zangezur Corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave,” President Aliyev stated during his address.

The Azerbaijani leader commended diplomatic efforts aimed at encouraging Armenia to embrace lasting peace, noting that international mediation had contributed significantly to recent developments.

President Aliyev recalled the historic meeting held at the White House, where he, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump participated in a landmark event. During the meeting, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint declaration, while the foreign ministers of both countries initialed the peace agreement in the presence of President Trump.

He described the development as an important milestone toward achieving sustainable peace and stability in the South Caucasus, expressing optimism that continued dialogue and cooperation would pave the way for lasting regional connectivity and reconciliation.
