Jakarta, July 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Morocco have further strengthened their cultural diplomacy through a special musical performance titled “A Musical Bridge Between Morocco and Indonesia” held in Jakarta, highlighting the role of culture in fostering friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday evening, Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the performance reflected the longstanding and growing relationship between Indonesia and Morocco, demonstrating how cultural exchange can bring people and nations closer together.
“Gatherings like this remind us that art is a universal language that speaks directly to the human heart and unites people across borders and cultures,” Fadli said.
The minister highlighted the historical roots of Indonesia-Morocco relations, noting that connections between the two countries date back centuries, particularly to the 14th century when Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta visited the Samudera Pasai Kingdom in Aceh.
He said Ibn Battuta’s travel records played an important role in introducing the Indonesian archipelago to the Islamic world and the wider international community.
Fadli further noted that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Morocco, which have continued for seven decades, have expanded through cooperation in various fields, including international forums.
He emphasized that both countries share common commitments to moderation, tolerance, intercultural dialogue, and respect for cultural diversity.
“The ties between Indonesia and Morocco are not only built through diplomacy but also through long-standing people-to-people ties, knowledge sharing, shared spiritual values, and cultural traditions passed down from generation to generation,” he said.
The Indonesian minister stressed that culture has become an important bridge connecting the two nations and expressed hope that similar cultural initiatives, including joint musical performances, would continue to strengthen bilateral relations in the future.
Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini also praised the event, describing it as an important effort to enhance cultural cooperation between the two countries.
He said Morocco and Indonesia enjoy excellent relations based on shared values, mutual trust, and respect, guided by the visions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
The ambassador reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation in cultural diplomacy, economic diplomacy, and most importantly, strengthening people-to-people relations.
The musical event underscored the growing partnership between Indonesia and Morocco, with culture serving as a key instrument for promoting friendship, dialogue, and closer cooperation between the two nations.
