Washington, July 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Finnish President Alexander Stubb for his support and understanding of Ukraine’s security requirements during their meeting in Washington, DC.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Zelenskyy said the two leaders exchanged updates on their recent meetings in the United States and discussed the latest developments in diplomacy and international affairs.
The Ukrainian president said Russia is facing significant battlefield losses and increasing economic challenges, while noting that President Stubb praised Ukraine’s long-range strikes against targets inside Russia.
“At the same time, we are doing everything possible to provide greater protection for Ukrainians from Russian strikes. I am grateful for his thorough understanding of our needs. Missiles for the Patriots are needed literally every day,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy added that the two leaders also reviewed ongoing diplomatic initiatives and preparations for what he described as important meetings expected to take place in August.
The Ukrainian president arrived in Washington earlier on Tuesday to attend the funeral of former US Senator Lindsey Graham. Prior to his meeting with Stubb, Zelenskyy held discussions with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
During his visit, Zelenskyy is also scheduled to meet with a bipartisan group of US senators as the US Senate prepares for its first vote on the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctions Act, which proposes measures targeting Russia and Iran.
The meeting between Zelenskyy and Stubb underscored continued coordination between Ukraine and Finland on security matters, diplomatic efforts, and support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
