Ashgabat, August 16, 2026 — The Europe Today: The first political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Bangladesh were held in Ashgabat on August 15, 2026, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a range of areas.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, while the Bangladeshi side was headed by Ambassador Nazrul Islam, Secretary Bilateral (East and West) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
During the consultations, the two sides held a constructive exchange of views on key issues of the bilateral agenda and reviewed the current level of political and diplomatic engagement between Turkmenistan and Bangladesh.
The parties highlighted the importance of organizing high-level and top-level visits to further strengthen intergovernmental relations. They also stressed the need to maintain regular contacts between the two foreign ministries and agreed to work toward arranging reciprocal visits by the foreign ministers.
The sides welcomed the constructive nature of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Bangladesh within international organizations, particularly the United Nations.
The diplomats also discussed measures to expand the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation and reviewed drafts of several prospective agreements and other documents. Opportunities for strengthening parliamentary contacts between the two countries were also considered.
Particular attention was devoted to enhancing trade and economic cooperation. The sides explored the possibility of establishing cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Among the promising areas identified for expanded economic partnership were the oil and gas sector, transport connectivity, agriculture and the textile industry.
The consultations also addressed prospects for developing cooperation in culture, education and tourism, with both sides emphasizing the importance of broader people-to-people and institutional contacts.
Concluding the talks, the delegations underscored the importance of continuing constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at strengthening relations between Turkmenistan and Bangladesh and serving the interests of both countries.
