Dushanbe, August 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Government of Tajikistan allocated a total of 8.1 billion somoni from the state budget in 2025 for construction works at the Rogun Hydropower Plant, while 11.4 billion somoni has been earmarked for the project in 2026, President Emomali Rahmon said.
The President made the remarks on August 21 during a meeting with workers and specialists involved in the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant.
Rahmon said more than 20,000 workers and engineering and technical personnel are currently engaged at the hydropower project, while the number of vehicles and construction machinery has reached approximately 4,000 units.
He emphasized the strategic importance of completing and commissioning the Rogun Hydropower Plant, saying the project would contribute to ensuring Tajikistan’s long-term development and improving the well-being of present and future generations.
According to information presented during the meeting, 8.4 billion somoni had been spent on construction and installation works at the plant from all sources of financing during the first seven months of 2026.
Overall, since 2008, the Tajik Government has allocated 60.3 billion somoni from the state budget and other sources for the construction and rehabilitation of the hydropower plant.
The figures underscore the scale of the government’s financial commitment to the Rogun project and reaffirm that completion of the hydropower plant remains one of the key priorities of Tajikistan’s economic and social development policy.
The Rogun Hydropower Plant is considered one of Tajikistan’s most important infrastructure projects and is expected to strengthen the country’s electricity generation capacity and support its long-term energy development.
