Baku, September 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, together with First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, visited the Azerbaijani Navy and reviewed the country’s latest developments in unmanned naval technologies.
Upon arrival, Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov reported to President Ilham Aliyev.
The President and the First Lady laid flowers at the monument to National Leader Heydar Aliyev in front of the headquarters of the Azerbaijani Navy and paid tribute to his memory.
During the visit, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were briefed on the purpose, tactical capabilities and technical specifications of the SALVO armed unmanned surface vessels (AUSVs) and KAYRA kamikaze unmanned surface vessels (KUSVs).
The vessels have been developed using advanced technologies at a joint production facility operated by MIRAS Military-Industrial Company LLC under the Ministry of Defense and DEARSAN Shipyard JSC.
The Azerbaijani leadership subsequently inspected the production facility and reviewed progress in the manufacturing of the unmanned naval systems.
The unmanned surface vessels produced at the facility were also subjected to practical testing to assess their operational capabilities and performance.
Following the inspection and testing, an operational meeting on military development was held under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The meeting focused on further strengthening Azerbaijan’s defense capabilities and advancing the development and production of modern military technologies.
