Rabat, September 21, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and French geoscience company Viridien have established a multi-client collaboration aimed at strengthening knowledge of Morocco’s subsurface and supporting new hydrocarbon exploration opportunities, Morocco World News reported.
Under the collaboration, the two partners will combine their respective expertise to develop integrated multi-client subsurface data and advanced analytics covering Morocco’s prospective sedimentary basins.
The initiative will bring together ONHYM’s regional and geoscientific expertise with Viridien’s capabilities in geoscience, seismic imaging and data analytics. The cooperation is expected to enhance understanding of Morocco’s geological and subsurface resources and support the identification and assessment of potential new exploration opportunities.
ONHYM Chief Executive Officer Amina Benkhadra said the collaboration reflects the office’s commitment to promoting innovation and international partnerships aimed at unlocking Morocco’s hydrocarbon potential.
She added that combining ONHYM’s regional knowledge with Viridien’s advanced technologies would help strengthen understanding of the country’s subsurface, attract international investment and accelerate exploration opportunities.
The partnership comes as Morocco seeks to diversify its energy sources and reduce its dependence on imported energy. The country has also been pursuing domestic natural gas production and related infrastructure alongside its broader renewable energy development efforts.
The collaboration is expected to provide exploration companies with enhanced geological and subsurface data, supporting further assessment of Morocco’s hydrocarbon resources and potentially strengthening the country’s attractiveness to international investors.
