Dushanbe, September 24, 2026 — The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon attended and addressed a festive event in Khujand, Sughd Region, on Wednesday evening marking the 35th anniversary of the country’s State Independence.
President Rahmon extended warm congratulations to all participants and guests of the cultural evening on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s State Independence.
He emphasized that independence and freedom represent the most valuable blessings, the greatest achievements and the strongest symbols of the existence of the Tajik nation. Thanks to independence, Tajikistan has become a free and prosperous country with its own national statehood, while ancient traditions and national values have been revived and the country has secured its rightful place in the international community.
The President noted that over the past 35 years of independence, major development and construction projects have been implemented throughout Tajikistan, including in Sughd Region.
He said that during the past five years alone, as part of preparations for the 35th anniversary of State Independence, 15,400 social and industrial facilities have been constructed or renovated and commissioned across the cities and districts of Sughd Region—3,400 more than the number envisaged under the approved plan.
Recalling the Government’s continued support for the region, President Rahmon said that over the 35 years of independence, the Government had implemented comprehensive measures to promote various sectors of the regional economy, address social challenges and improve the living standards and quality of life of the population.
“The development of light industry, the fuel and energy complex, mining and mineral processing, metallurgy and construction materials production in the region is now contributing to the sustainable development of the national economy,” President Rahmon said.
The Head of State also highlighted the importance of major road and transport projects in overcoming the country’s communication isolation, particularly the construction of the strategically important Istiklol and Shahriston tunnels and the rehabilitation of the Dushanbe–Chanak and Ayni–Panjakent highways.
President Rahmon stressed that amid the complex conditions of the modern world, safeguarding the achievements of State Independence, strengthening stability and national unity, and ensuring the country’s security require a strong sense of responsibility and sustained efforts from every patriotic citizen, particularly young people.
“I have great confidence in the strong national and patriotic spirit of the honorable and hardworking people of Sughd Region, and I am fully confident that, through our dedicated efforts, we will jointly make our beloved Tajikistan even more prosperous, beautiful, strong and developed,” the Leader of the Nation said.
Following the President’s address, a colorful concert programme featuring leading artists from across the country and performers from Sughd Region was held at the venue.
The programme showcased the achievements of Tajikistan during the years of independence and highlighted the role of the country’s leadership in promoting peace and stability, strengthening national unity and bringing the people together. It also presented the initiatives advanced by President Rahmon concerning the resolution of pressing global issues.
Artists performed songs celebrating the homeland, independence, national unity and other national values, drawing on the works of renowned Tajik poets and composers and adding to the festive atmosphere of the occasion.
