Hanoi, October 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: Việtnam is stepping up efforts to attract higher-quality foreign direct investment (FDI), with a stronger focus on green investment, sustainable production and environmentally friendly technologies as the country seeks to strengthen the contribution of foreign-invested enterprises to its economy.
After nearly four decades of economic integration, the foreign-invested sector has become an important pillar of Việt Nam’s economy, supporting exports, industrial development and integration into global value chains.
The country is increasingly focusing on attracting investment projects that bring advanced technologies, improve productivity, strengthen domestic supply chains and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
The shift comes amid growing global demand for greener production and stricter environmental requirements in international markets. Investors are increasingly considering access to renewable energy, low-carbon infrastructure and sustainable industrial ecosystems when deciding where to locate production facilities.
Việt Nam has therefore been promoting the development of green industrial parks and encouraging foreign investors to participate in sectors linked to renewable energy, clean technology, digital transformation and sustainable manufacturing.
Earlier government discussions have also emphasized a move away from simply maximizing FDI volumes toward more selective investment cooperation based on quality, efficiency and sustainability.
Green industrial infrastructure is becoming increasingly important in this transition. Industry data indicate that a significant share of foreign-invested enterprises now prioritize locations offering green energy infrastructure, while industrial parks are under increasing pressure to provide stable electricity, clean water, modern telecommunications, skilled labour and efficient administrative services.
The European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other international environmental requirements are also encouraging Vietnamese manufacturers and industrial parks to accelerate emissions reduction and improve the monitoring of carbon intensity.
Against this backdrop, Việt Nam is seeking to create a more favourable environment for foreign investors while ensuring that new investment contributes to technological advancement, environmental sustainability and greater domestic economic value.
The government’s approach is expected to place greater emphasis on strategic sectors and projects capable of strengthening Việt Nam’s competitiveness, supporting green growth and connecting domestic enterprises with global production networks.
The renewed focus on green FDI reflects Việt Nam’s broader development strategy of combining international investment with technological innovation, environmental responsibility and sustainable economic growth.
