Indonesia Calls for Stronger Multilateral Development Financing and Private Investment

Indonesia

Jakarta, October 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia has called for greater mobilization of private capital, effective development programmes and financing arrangements tailored to national capacities to strengthen multilateral development financing and international cooperation.

Speaking at the 57th Joint Governors Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara highlighted the World Bank Group’s important role in promoting productive investment and generating quality employment opportunities.

“ For Indonesia, the priority is crystal clear: funding that encourages productive investment, implementation of programs that create quality jobs, and partnerships that evolve in line with national needs,” Nazara said in a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

He said Indonesia aimed to mobilize private capital by providing affordable financing to support productive investments and stimulate economic activity.

The country would also advocate the swift approval and implementation of development programmes in collaboration with the World Bank Group to ensure timely progress on development priorities.

Nazara further emphasized the need for a transition policy on funding eligibility that considers national ownership and the long-term sustainability of development financing. He said financing arrangements should reflect countries’ individual circumstances and development requirements.

Addressing broader development challenges, the minister underscored the importance of comprehensive measures to tackle climate change and natural disasters as integral components of international development cooperation.

He stressed that climate action and crisis preparedness should follow practical, country-driven approaches that take national priorities and capacities into account.

Nazara said Indonesia supported the implementation of the Paris Agreement and other climate action measures aligned with the principles of energy sufficiency, affordability, economic competitiveness and fiscal sustainability.

He added that development financing and international partnerships should contribute to sustainable economic growth while enabling countries to address climate-related challenges and strengthen their resilience to natural disasters.
