Beijing, March 24, 2024, The Europe Today: Official data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicates a notable surge in power generation by China’s major electricity production enterprises during the first two months of this year.
According to the NBS, the total power output of these enterprises reached 1.49 trillion kilowatt-hours during the period, marking an impressive 8.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
A detailed analysis of the data reveals varying growth rates across different sources of power generation. Thermal power, for instance, experienced a robust year-on-year growth of 9.7 percent, showcasing the continued significance of this conventional energy source in China’s power landscape.
Hydropower, while showing a relatively modest increase of 0.8 percent, continues to play a crucial role in China’s renewable energy portfolio, contributing to the nation’s efforts towards sustainability and environmental conservation.
Furthermore, the output of nuclear power and wind power witnessed steady growth rates of 3.5 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively, indicating sustained investments and advancements in these alternative energy sectors.
Solar power generation emerged as a standout performer during the reporting period, with a remarkable year-on-year increase of 15.4 percent. This substantial growth underscores China’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
