Ashgabat, July 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan recorded a 15 per cent year-on-year increase in transit cargo volume during the first half of 2026, with more than 3.5 million tonnes of goods transported through the country to 94 destinations worldwide, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan reported on Friday.

According to the customs authority, the total cargo turnover at border checkpoints located along international transport corridors passing through Turkmenistan exceeded 10.5 million tonnes during the January–June period, representing a 10 per cent increase compared with the corresponding period last year.

The State Customs Service attributed the growth to ongoing efforts to modernise customs infrastructure and improve the efficiency of transit operations across the country’s international transport corridors.

The report said customs checkpoints are being gradually upgraded with expanded handling capacity and the wider introduction of digital technologies in customs procedures to facilitate faster and more efficient cargo movement.

At border crossings equipped with modern inspection systems, customs processes are digitally monitored from the moment vehicles enter Turkmenistan, significantly reducing clearance times and enhancing the efficiency of border operations.

The authorities said the continued modernisation of customs facilities is aimed at strengthening Turkmenistan’s role as a key regional transit hub linking international transport and trade routes.
