Shanghai, January 03, 2024, The Europe Today: In its production and deliveries report for 2023, Tesla announced that its Shanghai plant, the company’s inaugural gigafactory outside the United States, achieved a remarkable milestone by delivering 947,000 vehicles during the year. Reflecting a substantial 33 percent increase from the previous year, this production surge contributed significantly to Tesla’s global output of over 1.8 million electric vehicles in 2023.
Boasting a localization rate surpassing 95 percent, the Shanghai plant, with the ability to manufacture a car in less than 40 seconds, emerged as Tesla’s primary export hub worldwide. Over 600,000 electric vehicles from this facility were directed to the Chinese market in 2023. Tesla’s continued investment in Shanghai was underscored by the launch of a new mega factory project, slated to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2024, signaling the company’s commitment to capitalizing on the thriving opportunities within the Chinese market.
