Costco Wholesale Expands Presence in South China

Shehnzehn, January 12, 2024, The Europe Today: U.S. retail giant Costco Wholesale celebrated the grand opening of its sixth store on the Chinese mainland in Shenzhen’s Longhua District, Guangdong Province. Spanning an expansive 44,500 square meters, the store boasts nearly 15,000 square meters of retail space.

This strategic move represents Costco’s commitment to expanding its presence in south China, recognizing Shenzhen’s development potential and its status as an economic hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The store’s inauguration witnessed a surge of eager consumers, with popular items like strawberries and cherries quickly flying off the shelves. Costco’s Country Manager for China, Prudence Jang, emphasized the company’s dedication to the Chinese market, revealing plans to open a membership store in Nanjing this year and venture into the gas station business, further extending their commercial footprint across the country.

With over 870 stores globally and 120 million members, Costco continues to navigate China as a crucial strategic market since the debut of its first mainland store in Shanghai’s Minhang District in 2019.
