Global Outage Hits Meta Platforms-Owned Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Business

San Francisco, March 05, 2024, The Europe Today: Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta Platforms, experienced a widespread outage affecting hundreds of thousands of users across the globe on Tuesday, as reported by outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

The disruptions began around 10:00 am ET, with Downdetector.com receiving over 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and approximately 40,000 reports for Instagram. The outage quickly became a notable incident, garnering attention across social media platforms.

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged in a post on X social media.

In addition to Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s status dashboard revealed that the application programming interface (API) for WhatsApp Business was also encountering issues. Downdetector registered around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp, a popular messaging platform owned by Meta. Downdetector collates status reports from various sources, including users, to track outages.

The widespread outage became a trending topic on X, formerly Twitter, with numerous users expressing frustration about sudden logouts from Meta-owned social media platforms. The outage underscores the global impact of technical disruptions on widely used social networking services.

Meta Platforms is actively working to resolve the issue and restore normal service. Users are advised to monitor official updates from Meta for the latest information on the ongoing outage and the anticipated timeline for service restoration.
