Brunei Crown Prince Visits Singapore’s JTC Summit and Temasek Polytechnic

Singapore, September 13, 2024 — The Europe Today: His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince of Brunei and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, conducted an official visit to Singapore yesterday, marking key engagements with the city-state’s innovative and industrial sectors.

The Crown Prince was warmly welcomed at the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) Summit by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong. His Royal Highness was given an in-depth briefing on Singapore’s pioneering Punggol Digital District (PDD), which integrates the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus with JTC’s Business Park. The PDD is designed to support Singapore’s digital economy and serve as a sustainable and inclusive hub for lifestyle and business.

During the visit, the Crown Prince was shown cutting-edge technologies, including the facial payment system and the Open Digital Platform, highlighting the district’s role in fostering digital innovation. The briefing emphasized the PDD’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with the integration of smart building technologies aimed at creating an environmentally sustainable urban environment.

His Royal Highness also toured ‘The Makerspace’ and attended a session on JTC’s efforts to drive digitalisation and sustainability across Singapore’s built environment. Before concluding the visit, the Crown Prince participated in a group photograph session with JTC officials.

Visit to Temasek Polytechnic

Later in the day, His Royal Highness visited Temasek Polytechnic, where he was received by Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations. The Crown Prince’s visit focused on Singapore’s growing capabilities in aquaculture and plant science.

At the Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC), the Crown Prince observed laboratory activities, including parasite screening and feed testing, aimed at enhancing Singapore’s aquaculture industry. His Royal Highness then visited the Centre for Research and Opportunities in Plant Science (CROPS), where research focuses on boosting urban farming productivity through plant biotechnology and nutraceuticals.

Before concluding his visit, the Crown Prince toured the Temasek Gallery Lounge and engaged in hands-on activities, conducting health checks on microorganisms and oysters. His Royal Highness concluded his visit with a group photograph session.

Both the AIC and CROPS play key roles in supporting Singapore’s ambitions for sustainable development and technological innovation in agriculture and aquaculture.
