China Achieves Major Milestones in 14th Five-Year Plan Key Projects

Beijing, October 3, 2024 – The Europe Today: China has made remarkable progress in implementing the 102 key projects outlined in its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), with significant advancements in transportation infrastructure, energy systems, and green development. This update was provided by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), highlighting the country’s efforts to modernize and transform key sectors.

Key achievements over recent years include:

  • Transportation Infrastructure: China’s transportation network has been vastly improved, with approximately 95% of expressway service areas now equipped with electric vehicle charging facilities. Additionally, 151 national logistics hubs have been established across 31 provincial-level regions since 2021, enhancing the country’s logistics capabilities.
  • Energy Systems: China has built the world’s largest clean energy corridor along the Yangtze River, underscoring its commitment to sustainable energy. The country’s total installed power generation capacity has surpassed 3 billion kilowatts, with wind and solar energy capacity exceeding that of coal power, signaling a shift towards renewable energy.
  • Urban and Rural Development: Since 2021, China has made coordinated progress in upgrading its urban and rural infrastructure. Approximately 195,000 old urban residential communities have been renovated, and 210,000 kilometers of outdated gas pipelines have been upgraded. In rural areas, the total length of roads reached 4.6 million kilometers by the end of 2023, with 90% of rural areas now having access to tap water, and 75% of households benefiting from sanitary toilets.
  • Green Development: In line with China’s environmental goals, protected natural areas now cover 18% of the country’s total land area. Around 80% of the national steel production capacity has undergone ultra-low carbon emissions upgrades, marking a significant step towards pollution reduction.

China’s progress in these sectors reflects its broader efforts to build a modern economy while promoting sustainable and green development across the country.
