Solo, October 06, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Grand Committee for the 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) has confirmed that Solo is fully prepared to host the nation’s largest para-sports event, scheduled to take place from October 6 to 13.
“We are pleased to announce that we are fully prepared to organize the 17th Peparnas. Thanks to the support from all relevant parties, we have successfully completed the necessary preparations within a very short time,” said D.B. Susanto, chairperson of the Grand Committee, on Sunday.
The hosting responsibilities for the event were transferred from North Sumatra to Solo earlier this year. Despite the late change, with the Grand Committee only being established on July 29, Susanto highlighted that all essential work has been completed swiftly and efficiently.
“Immediately after its formation, the committee set up work units and developed programs in line with the master plan,” Susanto explained. He also emphasized the committee’s close coordination with the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPCI) to ensure compliance with all necessary regulations.
Addressing initial financial challenges that prevented several provinces from confirming their participation, Susanto commended the efforts of the committee and its collaboration with stakeholders, resulting in 35 provinces—the highest number in Peparnas history—participating in this year’s event.
“We have seen tremendous enthusiasm from the provinces for this year’s Peparnas,” he added, noting that a total of 4,632 athletes and officials have already arrived in Solo.
President Joko Widodo is set to officially open the 17th National Paralympic Week during a grand ceremony at Solo’s Manahan Stadium on Sunday evening. The event is expected to showcase the strength and resilience of Indonesia’s para-athletes, as well as the growing support for para-sports nationwide.
