Solo, November 4, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto and former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reunited over dinner on Sunday evening at Angkringan Omah Semar, a popular restaurant in Solo known for its traditional Javanese cuisine. The meeting marked their first encounter since Prabowo’s official inauguration as the 8th President of Indonesia on October 20.
The informal dinner provided a setting for the two leaders to converse as they enjoyed a meal of classic Javanese dishes. Prabowo, when asked by reporters about his meal, shared, “I had Javanese fried rice; it was delicious.” However, he offered little insight into the topics of their conversation, stating only, “It was about this and that,” with a smile. Jokowi, meanwhile, opted to maintain his silence, smiling at reporters as he left.
Prior to the dinner, Prabowo had visited Jokowi’s residence in Solo, following official visits to South Papua and Bali. Jokowi, who returned to Solo on the day of Prabowo’s inauguration, has been enjoying his retirement in his hometown.
Their cordial meeting, albeit light on political commentary, underscores the warm relationship between the current and former president, symbolizing a continuity of camaraderie and respect amid Indonesia’s evolving political landscape.
