Riyadh, November 11, 2024 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the international community to build consensus on suspending or even expelling Israel from the United Nations (UN) in light of the ongoing violence against Palestine.

Delivering Malaysia’s national statement at the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Monday, Anwar condemned Israel’s actions, describing them as a blatant genocide of the Palestinian people. He asserted that Israel’s violent actions against an entire nation had left the global community with no choice but to take decisive action, including imposing an arms embargo, suspending Israel’s membership, and even expelling it from the UN.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s call at the September UN General Assembly for an immediate arms embargo against Israel and emphasized the urgency of collective international action. “For the sake of not only the Palestinians but of humanity itself, we must punish and deter Israel’s repeated violations of international law and norms,” he stated. “Israel no longer belongs within the civilised community of nations.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted Israel’s actions against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees, which has been a vital lifeline for Palestinian civilians. He condemned Israel’s attempts to block UNRWA’s operations, which he said were jeopardizing humanitarian aid and survival for the people of Gaza. Anwar called for immediate steps to protect the UNRWA’s operations and safeguard humanitarian responses in the region.

Furthermore, Anwar emphasized the need for enhanced protection for UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, many of whom, including Malaysian forces, have faced attacks by Israeli forces. He urged the global community to ensure the safety of peacekeeping personnel and to halt the ongoing violence that threatens regional and global stability.

Anwar’s statement reflects Malaysia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its call for stronger international action to address Israel’s actions, which he described as endangering both the Middle East and the broader international order.
