Beijing, November 21, 2024 — The Europe Today: A grand exhibition titled “The Greeks: Agamemnon to Alexander the Great” opened to the public on Thursday at the Capital Museum of China, providing an extensive overview of ancient Greek history and culture. Featuring 270 artifacts from 14 renowned Greek museums and institutes, the exhibition includes pottery, stone statues, and gold artifacts, offering visitors an immersive journey through the rich legacy of Greek civilization.
Greek Ambassador to China Evgenios Kalpyris described the exhibition as a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Greek civilization’s enduring influence. The event marks a cultural milestone in the relationship between Beijing and Athens, coinciding with next year’s 20th anniversary of their sister-city partnership.
Zhang Lixin, Director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, emphasized the exhibition’s significance, noting that over 90 percent of the relics are being showcased in Beijing for the first time. “We believe that this exhibition will help the public experience the charm of Greek culture up close,” Zhang stated.
The exhibition will remain open in Beijing until May 18, 2025, before moving to Shanghai, continuing its mission to highlight the profound historical and cultural connections between Greece and China.
