Turkish Firm Otokar Secures $912.5 Million Military Vehicle Contract with Romania

Ankara, November 29, 2024 – The Europe Today: Turkish defense and vehicle manufacturer Otokar has entered into a significant agreement with Romania’s state-owned defense company Romtehnica to supply military vehicles worth approximately $912.5 million.

Under the agreement signed on Wednesday, Otokar will deliver 1,059 units of its 4×4 tactical wheeled light armored vehicles, known as Cobra II, to the Romanian Defense Ministry.

The first batch of 278 vehicles will be manufactured in Türkiye, with the remainder set to be produced in Romania. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the last quarter of 2025 and will be completed in phases over the next five years.

This milestone follows Otokar’s successful completion of technical evaluations, field tests, and commercial assessments. The contracting authority officially invited the company to negotiate on October 4.

The Cobra II, introduced in 2013, has been widely adopted across the globe, with over 20 users in 13 countries employing the versatile armored vehicle. Otokar highlighted that the Cobra II is available in more than 30 variants, tailored to meet diverse operational requirements.

A long-standing supplier of military vehicles to NATO and the United Nations since the 1980s, Otokar continues to strengthen its position in the global defense industry.

The collaboration reflects Romania’s efforts to modernize its defense capabilities and deepen industrial ties with Türkiye, bolstering bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
