Ankara, December 10, 2024 – The Europe Today: Türkiye will not permit terrorist groups to exploit the evolving situation in Syria, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, according to Foreign Ministry sources.
Fidan underscored Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity while discussing recent developments in the war-torn country.
Highlighting the urgent need for international collaboration, Fidan called for robust support to help the Syrian people rebuild neglected infrastructure. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to affected regions.
The call comes in the wake of significant changes in Syria, where anti-regime forces launched a swift 10-day offensive beginning November 27, capturing key cities and, by December 8, seizing the capital, Damascus. This rapid advance, bolstered by defecting military units, led to the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
Al-Assad and his family have since fled to Moscow, where they were granted asylum by Russia.
Fidan’s remarks signal Türkiye’s proactive stance in shaping a stable and unified Syria, while reinforcing its commitment to combating terrorism in the region.
