Indonesian President Calls for Bureaucratic Reform to Eradicate Corruption and Prevent Budget Leakage

Jakarta, December 12, 2024 – The Europe Today: In a bid to strengthen governance and promote transparency, President Prabowo Subianto has called for urgent bureaucratic reform to eradicate corruption and prevent budget leakage, according to State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini.

Minister Widyantini made the announcement during the “One Decade of Integrity Zone” event in Jakarta on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for tightened efforts to prevent corruption and supervision of law enforcement related to corruption. She stressed that the President has urged bureaucratic reforms to reflect a more responsive bureaucracy and continue to push improvements, particularly in technology-based services.

The Integrity Zone program, now in its tenth year, aims to accelerate bureaucratic reform in Indonesia by promoting a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability. The program focuses on three key areas: changes in the way of thinking and culture of bureaucrats and agencies, development of pilot units for corruption-free areas (WBK) and clean and serving bureaucratic areas (WBBM), and spreading a positive work culture.

Minister Widyantini explained that each pilot unit is expected to spread a work culture that is corruption-free, upholds high integrity, and is oriented towards excellent public services to other units. Currently, over 2,600 work units are working towards achieving WBK and WBBM status.

“We believe that this bureaucratic reform will be a strong foundation in creating governance that is cleaner, more effective, and more efficient,” Minister Widyantini emphasized.

Deputy for Bureaucratic Reform, Apparatus Accountability, and Supervision at the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform, Erwan Agus Purwanto, also spoke at the event, highlighting the progress made so far in achieving the goals of the Integrity Zone program.

The government’s commitment to bureaucratic reform is seen as a crucial step towards improving public trust in the administration and ensuring good governance in Indonesia.
