Kluang, January 4, 2024 – The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will sign the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) Agreement with Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Putrajaya on Monday (Jan 6), announced Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The landmark agreement is poised to bring transformative economic opportunities to Johor, with a particular focus on the halal industry and tourism, while also reshaping Malaysia’s national economic landscape.
“This agreement will not only benefit the people of Johor Baru but will also have a ripple effect across Johor and Malaysia. The economic and tourism opportunities it presents are immense,” said Datuk Onn Hafiz during a meeting with entrepreneurs in Kluang on Saturday.
He also highlighted the importance of readiness among Johoreans to fully leverage these opportunities. “If we are not prepared, others may capitalize on what could be a game-changer for our national economy,” he added.
The JS-SEZ agreement, initially slated for signing on Dec 9, had been postponed as Lawrence Wong was recovering from Covid-19.
