Dubai, February 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing Pakistani investors and business leaders in Dubai on Monday, emphasized that Pakistan’s economy is showing signs of steady improvement at the macroeconomic level.
Citing key economic indicators, the Prime Minister noted that inflation had declined to 2.4% in January 2025, while the policy rate had been reduced to 12%, reflecting a stabilizing economic environment. He highlighted significant achievements, including a rise in exports—particularly in the IT sector—and record-high foreign remittances of $3 billion in January.
PM Shehbaz credited this economic progress to Pakistan’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which he said had played a crucial role in restoring financial stability. He stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure sustainable economic growth by focusing on key sectors such as mining and minerals, information technology, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and value-added production.
He underscored Pakistan’s vast natural resources, particularly in mining and minerals, which he described as holding trillions of dollars in untapped potential. Progress in this sector, he noted, has already been initiated.
Addressing Pakistan’s youth, the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s strong demographic advantage, with 60% of the population aged between 15 to 30 years. He emphasized the need to equip young people with skills in artificial intelligence and IT to create employment opportunities and drive economic transformation.
On agriculture, PM Shehbaz acknowledged Pakistan’s considerable but underutilized potential. To address this, he announced a government-funded initiative to send 1,000 fresh agriculture graduates to China for specialized training in modern agricultural techniques.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of transitioning towards value-added production to enhance economic competitiveness. He acknowledged Pakistan’s shortcomings in this area and assured that the government is taking concrete steps to address these challenges.
Concluding his address, PM Shehbaz Sharif called for national unity and collective effort to ensure Pakistan’s economic resurgence, stating that dedicated work in these key areas would help the country regain lost ground and accelerate development.
