Kremlin Committed to Mediating Tensions Between the US and Iran, Says Peskov

Moscow, April 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to ongoing consultations with Tehran and its readiness to take all necessary steps to resolve tensions between the United States and Iran through “political and diplomatic means.”

“We are in constant consultation with our Iranian partners, including on the nuclear deal,” Peskov told reporters. He emphasized that Russia remains in regular contact with Iran regarding the nuclear issue and stressed that this diplomatic process would continue in the future. “Russia is ready to make every effort to contribute to this problem’s resolution by political and diplomatic means,” he added.

The comments came amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, with U.S. President Donald Trump calling for direct negotiations with Iran to forge a new deal, after unilaterally withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear agreement during his first term. However, Trump has also threatened military action, including bombing Iran, should an agreement not be reached.

In response, Tehran has dismissed the possibility of direct talks with Washington under the current threats, though it has left open the option for indirect negotiations. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and firmly denies any intent to develop nuclear weapons.

Moscow’s role as a mediator in the ongoing dispute between the US and Iran highlights Russia’s diplomatic efforts in the region and its broader influence on international negotiations related to the nuclear deal.
