Jeddah, May 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Al Ahli FC etched their name into Asian football history on Saturday, defeating Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale 2-0 to win the AFC Champions League Elite Finals Jeddah 2025, in front of over 58,000 passionate fans at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
The victory marks Al Ahli’s first-ever continental championship, finally bringing home the elusive title after years of near-misses, including two prior final defeats. The triumph capped a remarkable unbeaten campaign, with the Saudi club recording 12 wins and one draw en route to the crown.
The match was effectively decided in the first half, as Galeno broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a sensational curling strike from outside the box, courtesy of a sharp assist from Roberto Firmino. Just minutes later, Firmino delivered again with a pinpoint cross, allowing Franck Kessie to head home the second and seal the result before halftime.
Kawasaki Frontale, making their first appearance in a continental final, struggled to match Al Ahli’s pace and tactical discipline. Despite a spirited second-half effort, the Japanese side was unable to penetrate the hosts’ well-organized defense.
Al Ahli’s head coach Matthias Jaissle lauded his team’s performance, which blended flair, discipline, and resilience throughout the tournament. The club’s success is being celebrated as a landmark moment in its history, representing not just a championship win, but a powerful statement of Saudi football’s rising stature on the Asian stage.
With their first Asian title secured, Al Ahli now join the elite ranks of continental champions, as celebrations erupt across Jeddah and beyond.
