PM Shehbaz Sharif Rejects Indian Allegations, Reaffirms Strong Ties with Iran

Islamabad, May 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday categorically rejected attempts to implicate Pakistan in the recent Pahalgam incident without credible evidence, terming India’s weaponization of the Indus Waters Treaty as “unacceptable” and a clear red-line for the people of Pakistan.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is currently on an official visit to Islamabad. The Prime Minister voiced Pakistan’s serious concerns over heightened tensions in South Asia, attributing the instability to India’s provocative actions following the Pahalgam episode.

“While Pakistan has acted with maturity and responsibility, India has generated a media frenzy to deflect global attention from the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which remains the core issue undermining regional peace,” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying in a statement released by the PM Office Media Wing.

The Prime Minister categorically dismissed any unfounded allegations against Pakistan regarding the Pahalgam incident, emphasizing that Pakistan had proposed an international, transparent, and credible investigation to determine the facts.

At the outset of the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered his heartfelt condolences over the tragic explosion in Bandar Abbas, which resulted in the loss of numerous lives and injuries to many others. He prayed for the souls of the departed and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

In a warm and cordial exchange, the Prime Minister conveyed his profound respects to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and extended sincere greetings to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its time-tested, fraternal relations with Iran.

Reflecting on his previous engagements and recent telephone call with President Pezeshkian, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in trade, energy, border management, and regional connectivity.

Foreign Minister Araghchi, conveying warm greetings from the Iranian leadership, reaffirmed Iran’s strong commitment to further strengthening ties with Pakistan. He also reiterated President Pezeshkian’s invitation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to undertake an official visit to Tehran within the current year.

The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ shared vision for peace, stability, and development in the broader South Asian and West Asian regions.
