Azerbaijani Defense Delegation Visits Uzbekistan to Strengthen Military Aviation and Air Defense Ties

Tashkent, June 9, 2025 – The Europe Today: A high-level military delegation led by Lieutenant General Namiq Islamzade, Deputy Minister of Defense and Commander of the Air Force of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has paid an official visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of Major General Akhmad Burkhanov, Commander of the Uzbek Air Defense and Air Forces.

According to Azernews, citing the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the delegation began their visit by laying flowers at the statue of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Heydar Aliyev Park, Tashkent, paying tribute to his memory.

During the official meetings, Lieutenant General Islamzade held talks with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Defense, Major General Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov, and Major General Burkhanov. The discussions focused on the current status and future prospects of military cooperation, particularly in the areas of military aviation and air defense.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of mutual visits and joint engagements to facilitate the exchange of experience and expertise. A broad exchange of views was also conducted on various other issues of mutual interest in the defense sector.

As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also toured the “Chirchik” airbase and a nearby military unit, where they familiarized themselves with operational conditions, training systems, and military infrastructure.

The visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the field of defense and security cooperation.
