Islamabad, May 15, 2026 – The Europe Today/ GNP: Prominent British-Pakistani businessman and philanthropist Raja Suleman Raza has been awarded Pakistan’s prestigious “Tamgha-i-Imtiaz” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening Pakistan-United Kingdom relations through business, philanthropy, hospitality and community engagement.
The award was conferred during an investiture ceremony in Islamabad by Asif Ali Zardari, making Raja Suleman Raza one of the few British-Pakistani personalities to receive major honours from both the British Crown and the State of Pakistan.
Raja Suleman Raza is the founder and chief executive of Spice Village, president of Grand Sapphire Hotels, and co-founder of the humanitarian initiative One Million Meals, which gained nationwide recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic for delivering hot meals to NHS frontline workers across Britain.
The Tamgha-i-Imtiaz adds to an already distinguished portfolio of honours held by Raza. He was previously appointed Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to business and philanthropy. In 2022, One Million Meals also received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, regarded as the highest national honour for voluntary groups in the United Kingdom.
Speaking after receiving the award, Raja Suleman Raza described the honour as a tribute to both Pakistan and Britain.
“This honour belongs first to Pakistan, the country that raised me, and to Britain, the country that gave me the opportunity to build. Between these two nations, my life has been a single conversation, conducted across the dinner table, the kitchen counter and the public square,” he said.
He emphasized that food and hospitality can serve as powerful tools of diplomacy and social harmony, citing initiatives such as feeding NHS frontline workers during the pandemic through One Million Meals, hosting the first Pakistani Iftar at 10 Downing Street, and collaborating with the Pakistan High Commission in London on initiatives promoting Pakistan-UK friendship.
At the heart of Raza’s humanitarian profile is One Million Meals, which emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the most visible British-Asian relief operations in the United Kingdom. The initiative provided freshly cooked meals to healthcare workers across hospitals in several British cities during the peak of the crisis.
Over the years, Raja Suleman Raza has also established himself as a leading figure in the British-Asian hospitality sector. Under his leadership, Spice Village has evolved into a well-known cultural and culinary institution in London, while Grand Sapphire Hotels has become a major name in premium hospitality, conferencing and event management.
Beyond business, his philanthropic work has supported several major charitable initiatives focused on relief, healthcare and education. Through the Spice Village Uplyft programme, he has provided employment opportunities and scholarship support to young people, including students participating in the Pakistan Oxford Programme at University of Oxford.
Raza is also part of the Founders Circle of the British Asian Trust, the flagship South Asian philanthropy initiative founded by King Charles III during his tenure as Prince of Wales.
Widely recognized for promoting cultural and diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, Raja Suleman Raza hosted the first-ever Pakistani Iftar at 10 Downing Street and became the first Pakistani caterer to organize events at British Royal Palaces, including St James’s Palace.
He also collaborated with the Pakistan High Commission in London to commemorate 75 years of Pakistan-UK friendship at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and organized the Pakistan Mango Festival in 2023 to promote Pakistani agricultural exports and cultural diplomacy in Britain.
Observers and members of the British-Pakistani community have hailed the conferment of the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz as recognition of Raja Suleman Raza’s enduring role in strengthening bilateral friendship, promoting humanitarian values and enhancing Pakistan’s positive image internationally.
