Ashgabat, May 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: The new “Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan Border” highway currently under construction in Turkmenistan’s Balkan Province is designed to accommodate up to 14,000 vehicles per day and nearly 580 vehicles per hour, according to a report published by the newspaper Türkmenistan on Thursday.
The highway is being constructed by Altyn Nesil, a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The total length of the highway will be approximately 250 kilometers, with the project scheduled for completion in 2028.
According to the report, the road infrastructure will include eight bus stops, several fuel stations, and various public service facilities.
The carriageway will feature concrete median barriers separating traffic lanes, while protective guardrails will be installed along both sides of the highway without obstructing traffic movement.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the major transport project was held at the end of last year with the participation of Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The new highway is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and improve transport links between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
