Amman, August 05, 2026 – The Europe Today: Jordan and the United States on Tuesday signed a four-year bilateral strategic objective agreement worth $354.6 million to support the Kingdom’s national development priorities under its Economic Modernisation Vision, reinforcing the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and US Ambassador to Jordan Jim Holtsnider, marking the first such agreement concluded with the current US administration and aligning with Washington’s updated approach to foreign assistance.
According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the funding will finance a broad range of priority programmes and projects aimed at advancing Jordan’s economic reform agenda, with particular emphasis on enhancing long-term water security, strengthening economic resilience, and promoting greater national self-reliance.
The investment package will support key sectors including water and sanitation, energy, education, tourism, and economic development, with the objective of improving public services, expanding economic opportunities, and fostering sustainable growth across the Kingdom.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Toukan described Jordan-US relations as a strategic partnership founded on mutual respect, noting that the United States remains one of Jordan’s principal development partners.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to directing international assistance toward initiatives that stimulate economic growth while improving critical infrastructure and essential public services for citizens.
Toukan also said the agreement sends a strong signal regarding the resilience of Jordan’s economy and reflects the confidence of international partners in the Kingdom’s ability to continue implementing its programme of economic reform and sustainable development.
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said the agreement highlights the depth of the enduring strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States while further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
The ministry added that the funding will be allocated to priority development projects and programmes in coordination with relevant ministries and government institutions to support the implementation of the Economic Modernisation Vision and help achieve its long-term development objectives.
