Cairo, September 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco has been elected president of the Permanent Information Committee of the League of Arab States, reinforcing Rabat’s role in Arab media cooperation and joint institutional action.
The election was held in Cairo on the sidelines of the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.
Morocco will chair the committee through Moustapha Amdjar, Director of Relations with Media Actors at the Department of Communication under the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
The appointment reflects the confidence placed in Morocco within the institutions of joint Arab action and recognizes its contribution to strengthening media cooperation and coordination among Arab countries, according to the report.
The 166th session of the Arab League Council began Monday at the organization’s headquarters in Cairo, with a Moroccan delegation headed by Mohamed Ait Ouali, Morocco’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League.
The session’s agenda includes political, economic, social, cultural and legal issues. The situation in Gaza and what the Arab League describes as illegitimate Iranian attacks against Arab countries are among the key issues under discussion.
The meeting also involves the election or appointment of heads of several permanent committees, including the Human Rights Committee, Meteorology Committee, Permanent Information Committee and Committee on International Humanitarian Law. The appointment of judges to the Administrative Court of the Arab League is also on the agenda.
Morocco also secured a position within the Arab League’s judicial institutions, with Fatima Tazi, an adviser to Morocco’s Court of Cassation, elected as a member of the Administrative Tribunal of the League of Arab States.
The latest appointments further strengthen Morocco’s representation across the Arab League’s institutional bodies and underline its continued engagement in the organization’s political, media and legal structures.
