Dushanbe, September 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: President Emomali Rahmon has reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence among nations, good-neighbourly relations and constructive international cooperation in a speech marking the country’s 35th anniversary of state independence.
President Rahmon said that throughout its 35 years of independence, Tajikistan had consistently pursued a balanced, peace-oriented and constructive foreign policy based on the “open-door” principle.
He noted that this policy had enabled Tajikistan to strengthen its international standing and establish broad diplomatic relations. According to the President, Tajikistan is currently recognized by 192 states and maintains diplomatic relations with 186 countries.
Rahmon said the country continues to develop friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with most of its international partners across areas of common interest. He added that relations with several neighbouring and friendly countries had been elevated to the level of strategic partnership.
The President also highlighted Tajikistan’s active participation in dozens of international and regional organizations, saying such engagement had enabled the country to contribute to addressing major global challenges, particularly those related to water resources, climate change, security and peace.
Since gaining independence, Tajikistan has initiated 20 resolutions that were subsequently adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, Rahmon said.
He described the latest initiative, the UN General Assembly resolution declaring the “Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036),” as further evidence of Tajikistan’s contribution to international peacebuilding and its efforts to advance the global peace agenda.
President Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan would continue pursuing a peaceful and constructive foreign policy and strengthening cooperation with countries and international organizations in support of stability, sustainable development and global peace.
