Hanoi, September 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Tô Lâm has called for stronger and more practical efforts to prevent and combat corruption, wastefulness and negative phenomena, stressing the need to follow the motto of “talk less, do more” and see tasks through to completion.
He made the remarks while chairing a meeting of standing members of the Central Steering Committee for Prevention and Control of Corruption, Wastefulness and Negative Phenomena on September 17.
Tô Lâm said progress had been made in institution-building, power control, early supervision and the application of science and technology and digital transformation. He noted that supervision of major policies, new mechanisms and key projects had contributed to detecting and addressing violations.
He stressed that violations must continue to be handled strictly in accordance with the law, with no prohibited zones or exceptions. At the same time, he said shortcomings and uneven results should be addressed promptly, and difficulties should not simply be attributed to institutional mechanisms.
For the remaining months of 2026, the top leader called for a comprehensive review of outstanding issues and measures to resolve them, alongside continued improvements to the legal framework. He also urged decisive action on long-delayed projects and surplus public buildings and land.
Tô Lâm requested stronger power control and data-based supervision to prevent violations “at the root, early and from afar.” He also called for the timely completion of cases under the Central Steering Committee’s supervision and proactive detection and handling of violations in new and key areas.
He instructed the committee to act immediately on matters that are clear and to promptly report obstacles to relevant agencies, stressing that responsibility should not be avoided or transferred.
The effectiveness of anti-corruption and related efforts, he said, should be reflected in concrete outcomes, including the handling of wrongdoing, recovery of assets, unlocking of resources, reduction of harassment and strengthening of public trust.
According to the meeting, since the committee’s 30th session on June 18, Party committees, organisations and relevant agencies have implemented assigned tasks, with measures taken to institutionalise policies on preventing and combating corruption, wastefulness and negative phenomena.
During the same period, the Central Steering Committee monitored and directed 20 cases and six other cases, with investigations and handling largely proceeding as scheduled. Inspections identified violations and recommended the recovery of VNĐ331.6 billion (approximately US$12.7 million) and 176 hectares of land, while administrative action was recommended against 1,577 organisations and 2,485 individuals. Thirty-eight cases showing signs of criminal offences were transferred to investigative agencies.
The meeting also agreed to end monitoring of five cases and add a case involving alleged smuggling, accounting violations causing serious consequences and bribery at Việt Mỹ Medical Investment JSC and related entities to the monitoring list.
