Dushanbe, September 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: A new drinking water supply line serving approximately 19,000 residents of Istiklol was inaugurated on September 21 with the participation of President of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon.
The project was implemented with the support of the Government of Tajikistan and the involvement of development partners. The drinking water is supplied to the city from a source located more than 17 kilometres away, helping address longstanding challenges faced by local residents in accessing drinking water.
During the presentation of the project, President Rahmon was informed that the water supply line was constructed using pipes with a diameter of 250 millimetres and equipped with specialised gravity-flow systems.
Construction of the water supply line began in November 2024 in accordance with the approved project. Around 150 local residents were employed during the implementation of the project.
The new water infrastructure is also expected to provide residents of Istiklol with improved opportunities to cultivate vegetables and other agricultural crops on household plots.
During the years of Tajikistan’s independence, a range of measures has been implemented to promote the social and economic development of Istiklol. These efforts have contributed to improvements across various sectors, including the provision of safe and reliable drinking water to the population.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the continued development of the city and the measures being undertaken to improve living conditions. They also pledged to contribute to further development and construction initiatives as part of the country’s ongoing development efforts.
