Dushanbe, September 26, 2026 — The Europe Today: September 26 is observed in Tajikistan as the Day of the Majlisi Oli — Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, in accordance with the country’s Law “On Holidays.” On the occasion, a congratulatory message was issued by Chairman of the National Assembly of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali.
In his message, Rustam Emomali emphasized the important role of the Parliament of Tajikistan as the representative institution of the people and the country’s supreme legislative body in shaping state legal policy, representing public interests and establishing the legal foundations for the country’s sustainable development.
He noted that the Majlisi Oli conducts its activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Constitutional Law “On the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan” and other national legal acts.
According to Article 48 of the Constitution of Tajikistan, the Majlisi Oli — Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan — is the country’s supreme representative and legislative body. It consists of two chambers: the Majlisi Milli, or National Assembly, and the Majlisi Namoyandagon, or Assembly of Representatives. The activities of both chambers are conducted in the form of sessions.
Rustam Emomali described September 26 as an important date in the history of modern Tajik statehood. He noted that constitutional reforms established the country’s bicameral parliamentary system comprising the Majlisi Milli and the Majlisi Namoyandagon, which has continued to operate on a stable and effective basis.
The message further stated that, within a relatively short period, the Majlisi Oli had contributed to the development of the legal system of independent Tajikistan based on national interests and international experience, thereby strengthening the foundations of a democratic, law-based and secular state.
The Parliament, drawing on the historical traditions of national legislation and taking into account contemporary societal needs, continues to adopt important and modern laws. These legislative measures play a significant role in strengthening the rule of law, protecting human and citizens’ rights and freedoms, and developing civil society.
Rustam Emomali also highlighted the contribution of members of the Majlisi Milli and deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon to the implementation of the country’s strategic objectives and the advancement of state policy.
He emphasized that the expansion of inter-parliamentary relations and parliamentary diplomacy contributes to strengthening Tajikistan’s international position, broadening constructive cooperation and promoting the country’s initiatives internationally.
The message concluded that, under current conditions, the activities of the legislative body are primarily focused on safeguarding national interests, ensuring social stability and creating favorable conditions for the country’s development.
