Vilnius, September 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: Viet Nam and Lithuania have expressed their intention to strengthen political trust and expand cooperation across trade, investment, science and technology, digital transformation, energy and education during an official visit by Vietnamese National Assembly Vice President Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh to Lithuania.
Anh visited Lithuania from September 27 to 29, marking the first visit by a Vietnamese National Assembly leader to the country. The visit also comes ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Lithuania in 2027.
During talks with Lithuanian Speaker of Parliament Juozas Olekas, Anh reaffirmed Viet Nam’s importance attached to its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Lithuania. He conveyed an invitation from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for Olekas to visit Viet Nam.
Anh called for stronger cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. He also emphasized the role of both legislatures in translating political commitments into practical cooperation through legislation and oversight.
Olekas welcomed Viet Nam’s development achievements and supported increased parliamentary cooperation, particularly in digital transformation, green development and innovation. Lithuania also announced the establishment of a Lithuania-Viet Nam parliamentary friendship group.
The two sides identified further opportunities for cooperation in high technology, digital transformation, clean energy, education and training, while encouraging stronger links among businesses, research institutions and young people.
On economic relations, Anh called for greater use of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement, expanded trade and investment, and progress in negotiations on an agreement to avoid double taxation. He also urged Lithuania to support the early ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement by the remaining EU member states.
During a visit to energy company KN Energies, Anh welcomed its cooperation memorandum with Viet Nam’s Indel Petro and encouraged collaboration in LNG infrastructure, technology transfer, management expertise and human-resource training. KN Energies expressed readiness to share its international experience and participate in energy infrastructure projects in Viet Nam.
The Vietnamese delegation also met representatives of the Vietnamese community in Lithuania, encouraging them to preserve their national identity, integrate into Lithuanian society and continue serving as a bridge between the two countries.
