Moscow, October 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: Russian Presidential Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev has said that European countries need Russian energy resources to meet their energy needs during the coming winter.
“Winter is coming. As predicted, stubborn ideological energy mistakes by the EU already have enormous consequences. Europe needs Russian energy to survive,” Dmitriev wrote on X.
He made the remarks in response to a post by US blogger and cryptocurrency entrepreneur Mario Nawfal concerning rising gas prices in Europe.
Dmitriev had previously warned that the approaching winter could be the most difficult for the European Union since 2022, saying it could again highlight the consequences of reducing reliance on Russian energy supplies.
His latest comments come amid continued debate in Europe over energy security, gas prices and the availability of supplies ahead of the winter heating season. Recent reports have also pointed to concerns over European gas storage levels and market conditions.
Dmitriev’s statements reflect the Russian position that restrictions on Russian energy supplies have contributed to challenges facing European energy markets. European countries, however, have significantly reduced their dependence on Russian energy since 2022 and have pursued alternative sources of supply.
