Azerbaijan, Nigeria Discuss Bilateral Relations and Multilateral Cooperation

Baku, October 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu on October 5, during which the two sides reviewed prospects for developing bilateral relations and discussed issues of mutual interest.

The ministers exchanged views on the bilateral cooperation agenda, as well as collaboration within multilateral organizations and platforms.

In this context, they emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation. They also stressed the need for mutual support and closer coordination within these platforms.

Bayramov said Azerbaijan considers relations with African countries among the priorities of its foreign policy. He underscored the importance of expanding cooperation with Nigeria in political, economic, humanitarian and other areas.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister also highlighted opportunities available to Nigerian citizens through Azerbaijan’s Intergovernmental Scholarship Program.

The two ministers further exchanged views on other topical issues on the regional and international agenda.
