Morocco, Cambodia Discuss Strengthening Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation

Morocco

Arusha, October 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco and Cambodia have discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and broaden bilateral relations across economic, cultural and educational fields during talks held on the sidelines of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Lahcen Haddad, fourth Vice-President of Morocco’s House of Councillors, held talks with Ouch Borith, Vice-President of the Cambodian Senate, in Arusha on October 5.

Haddad stressed the importance of giving fresh momentum to relations between Morocco and Cambodia, highlighting the shared interest of the two countries in expanding cooperation and making use of their respective strategic positions in Africa, the Atlantic region and Southeast Asia.

He noted that bilateral relations have gained momentum through regular diplomatic and parliamentary exchanges, calling for increased visits and contacts between the two legislative institutions.

The Moroccan official also proposed joint initiatives in the economic, cultural and educational sectors, while underscoring the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting economic cooperation.

He suggested encouraging the organisation of economic forums and facilitating contacts between businesses and investors from both countries, noting the potential complementarities between their respective economies.

For his part, Ouch Borith said Morocco and Cambodia share aspirations for peace, stability and development, as well as a common interest in preserving their cultural heritage.

Despite the geographical distance separating the two countries, the Cambodian official stressed the importance of further strengthening their relations and expanding cooperation into additional areas, particularly the economic and political fields.

Borith also expressed appreciation for Morocco’s scholarship programmes for Cambodian students, describing human resource development as an important component of Cambodia’s development efforts.

The discussions reflected the two countries’ interest in building on existing parliamentary and educational exchanges while creating additional opportunities for economic and institutional cooperation.

Morocco’s delegation to the 153rd IPU General Assembly is led by House of Councillors President Mohamed Ould Errachid. The assembly brought together parliamentary representatives from around the world in Arusha.
